Understanding Picasso, How To Read Guernica? - Smart Art History #5
This video helped me understand the symbolism used by Pablo Picasso. He has combined elements of pain and violence along with symbols which generate hope. Hence, questions arise on the moral values of how human beings should or should not treat each other. Through this I learned how art is an essential medium to portray emotions on the chosen theme.
This video displayed to me how all the elements on a canvas are placed there because of the artist’s choices, just like a novel is constructed based on the writer’s choices. It is interesting to see how Picasso combined two very different art movements, surrealism and symbolism, to create Guernica. The analysis in this video illustrates the deeper meaning behind Picasso’s work, and it helped me understand why his paintings have had such a profound impact on cultural history.
