The Reluctant Fundamentalist
ReplyDeleteThe Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid is a novel that inculcates the charm of entertaining anyone. It has an amusing and humourous undertone, that easily captivates the reader. Yet somehow, matters of importance such as racism and identity are conveyed. Hamid very divergently portrays the life a teenage boy, his education, love life, financial issues but most importantly the search for his true destiny. I felt that Changez's struggle to realise who he really is, caught the most attention. The novel flowed smoothly and even though it ended with a cliffhanger, I overcame a sense of satisfaction. This was because he found his identity, and everything after seemed irrelevant.
The novel magnifies the tiny issues in life, and almost zooms into the life of Changez. The interesting aspect is the way in which the story is conveyed. It is a book that I'd never forget.
