During that two weeks I will be available to advise you on the criteria and the types of activities. Point you in the right direction, so to speak and tell you bluntly if your heading in the wrong direction.
I cannot be your 'partner' in writing or devising the details of the Oral, that is not my role.

Is Slim the ideal portrait of an American Male and Masculine Vitrues?
ReplyDeleteHi Aryaman - bonus marks for you as the first person to successfully post to this blog :)
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. C,
ReplyDeleteMy topic will be the Usage of Language in Of Mice and Men with regards the characters.
Regards,
Parth Seth
Hi Parth - just for your consideration -
ReplyDeleteDoes Steinbeck's use of realistic dialogue among the characters contribute to the impact of the novel?
Think about this and let me know tomorrow.
Thakns.
Dear Mr. C,
ReplyDeleteI plan on doing the presentation with Pranav Vakharia. Our topic will be -characters through dialogue in 'Of Mice And Men', which basically means how Steinbeck describes his characters solely through their dialogues.
interesting but seems very similar to Parth's topic? still we may be able to work something on this next week.....
ReplyDeletesir i don't have a 'title' yet but my topic is essentially:
ReplyDeleteIf Gregor did in fact just have a mental breakdown and didn't turn into a pest then what his family did was indirectly murder him, by the way they treated him. using the text as 'evidence' i want to create a courtroom scene where one lawyer is trying to prove gregor was human (ie his parents are guilty of murder) and the other trying to prove he did transform into a pest.
love it Gauri,sounds very interesting!
ReplyDeleteRujiv and I are doing a presentation on "How can we say if a character is good or bad "
ReplyDeleteBook : Of Mice And Men
good choice for you Aamir and Rujiv too, let's talk next week and see if we can fine tune your title to make it more literary, same idea but perhaps more elegant phrasing? but the idea itself is fine, don't change that :)
ReplyDeleteok guys I gtg offline now - see you tomorrow at MUN -
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. C,
ReplyDeleteI really liked your suggestion and the title of my topic is now:"Does Steinbeck's use of realistic dialogue among the characters contribute to the impact of the novel?"
Regards,
Parth Seth
my book is of mice and men and my topic is "the morals in of mice and men: sense and sensibility"
ReplyDeleteSumedha
well done everyone - we will fine tune these topics in class on Monday/Tuesday.
ReplyDeletesir, if my topic actually does turn out to overlap with Parth's then my back up plan would mostly be to do "literary devices used by Kafka" but i'm yet not a 100% sure about the topic.
ReplyDeleteSir, my topic would be the "relationship between george and lennie"
ReplyDeleteMy topic will be the american dream and its relation to the book 'Of Mice and Men '

ReplyDeleteMr C, just like Gauri I don't have a title yet, but I would like to interpret the book, "Of Mice and Men" from different perspectives.
ReplyDeleteVivaan
Dear Mr. C
ReplyDeletei haven't fine tuned my topic yet, but it is basically the manifestation of different kinds of friendships on the farm in Of Mice and Men and and how each person is only friends with the next to serve a particular purpose. And how George and Lenny are the only true friends in the entire story.
Dear Mr.C
ReplyDeleteAs we discussed earlier my topic is, 'Are the themes of Metamorphosis more prevalent now than they were a hundred years ago'
Thank you.

ReplyDeleteMy title is going to be: In through the out door
I'm going to be discussing the role of women in society in Persepolis.

Thank you,
Prianka :)

ReplyDeleteI have two to three topics but based on Metamorphosis only
1. being that i wanted to describe Greg's psychology and relating to teenagers and giving examples and much more in depth.

The scene takes place in the barn after George leaves with Carlson and Curley to look for Lennie. The scene basically talks about Candy having a breakdown because of the huge losses he had in recently (His dog and his dream of the ranch with George and Lennie).
Of course, it on the Book - Of Mice and Men

ReplyDeleteDear Mr. C
ReplyDeleteI have zeroed in on Persepolis as the book of my choice.
1)The topic I was interested in, is the idea of survival in the graphic novel; basically in Marjane's life. She has to survive the revolts, wars, gender discrimination, etc. basically every major event is incorporated into surviving or not.
2)Another topic could be Differences which then brings into consideration both class differences and male-female dominance.
I apologize if my choices sound a little raw.
Sincerely
Kaniel Kalarikkal
im doing my presentation with Raunak
ReplyDeletewe will be working on "persepolis"
1) this book has a lot of themes so we would pick out a few and go in detail
OR
2)the overarching theme of identity in persepolis
Dear Mr.C,
ReplyDeleteMy topic for the individual oral presentation will be 'The impact of language on the effectiveness of The Metamorphisis.'

The book i will be choosing is 'Of mice and men ' and my topic is the implications of the great depression on all the characters and in particular to their dreams.
ReplyDeleteBook: Persepolis
ReplyDeleteTitle: Metamorphosis of Marjane's mind and Loss of Innocence (Subject to Change)
Format: PPT and either a monologue or a diary entry as Marjane
Hey Mr. C,
ReplyDeleteI would like to do Metamorphosis for my IOP, and the topic I thought of was 'How apt the title is to the text'. I can bring out Gregor's mental frame of mind and show the change he undergo's, mentally and also physically to a certain extent. Also, whether he was actually a cockroach or not could be debated about. And I would incorporate a lot of evidence from the text.
Thank you,
Mridula Gupta
:)
